Pocket Poems

As was the case last year, I teamed up with the Seattle School of Visual Concepts and their fabulous letterpress director Jenny Wilkson to produce thousands of pocket-sized poems that will be distributed today across Washington through independent book sellers in celebration of National Poetry Month.

Hi Claudia!

I hope you are well. I wanted to send you your schedule for the week of the Get Lit! festival.

Monday, April 22nd – Happy Hour Preview 4 – 5:30 p.m. @ Wandering Table. This event will be sort of a “sample” of the big kick off event later that night for folks who might not be able to attend that event, but still want to hear from the poets. Each poet will most likely read for 10 minutes.

Monday, April 22nd – Four Seasons: A Pairing of Arts and Fine Cuisine 6 p.m. @ Montvale Event Center. This is the big Monday night kick off event which I sent you a separate email detailing on Thursday! Let me know if you have any questions about this one.

Tuesday, April 23rd – Spark Central Event 7 p.m. This is an event for Spark Central, they are going to be releasing a small chapbook. We’re pretty sure they’re going to be asking you for a poem that inspires a recipe. Since you’re already going to be participating in the Monday night reading where the chef is going to make some food inspired by your poem, we might be able to just use that recipe for this event. We will let you know more details about this event when we get them! It’s still in the works on Spark’s end.

Wednesday, April 24th – visit with the 170 Intro to Lit class at EWU in Cheney from 2-3:20pm. This is a lecture-hall style class. We’ll get you more details soon, but we’re pretty sure that the professors would like a talk/reading followed by a Q&A.

Wednesday, April 24th – Broken Mic 6 p.m. @ Neato Burrito. You will be able to read some poetry at this event; probably about 20-30 minutes worth, but we will get you those details soon as well.

Thursday, April 25th – Pie & Whiskey 9 p.m. @ Cracker Bldg. Sam Ligon and Kate Lebo will be sending more specific prompts for folks to use if they need inspiration, but generally these readings are short (5-10 minutes) and this year’s theme is “heroes and villians” and of course if there are pie and whiskey elements to the piece that’s always welcome!

Friday, April 26th – Classroom visit at Cheney HS time TBD followed by meet and greet in Multicultural Center, also in Cheney. Since we don’t have the times worked out yet for this, we could probably work around GU’s schedule, but we’ll be in touch with the high school to hopefully get a time from them soon.

Friday, April 26th – Author’s Reception (this is completely optional!) 4-5:30 @ Gilded Unicorn. Festival authors have the chance to mingle and have drinks and snacks.

Friday, April 26th – Poetry Salon 9 p.m. @ downtown Library, Spokane. You’ll be joined on-stage with Kaveh Akbar, Kelly Schirmann, Anastacia-Renee Tolbert, Janaka Stucky for a general discussion on poetry which will be moderated by local poet Ellen Welcker.
